- Mark, I am coming in late on this exchange, so make allowances;
- I just wanted to tell you that I have gotten results almost exactly
- as you describe with a 4000T and a 4000, both using WE 4040 and
- 1936AV Micropolis drives (VLab Motion board is v. 1.3, with 2.5
- Movieshop software). I find the VLM is really only suitable for VHS
- quality tape mastering; S-video input was tried by one of my customers
- from his tapes, and he couldn't get past 45% quality without freezes,
- using the above setup. I agree that the design being Zorro II limits
- this system, and I think it would do so even with the fastest hard drives.
-
- Macrosystem claims that the present VLM works better in a Draco, and
- that the special Draco VLM version will do 5-7 MB/s rates, allowing
- quite low compression. Great, that may solve the lockup vs. bandwidth
- problems. But that's not the only problem VLab has. Their 4:2:2 digitized
- signal isn't all that good looking, even before JPEG compression. For the
- money a Draco costs, I could get a Flyer, and get away from 4:2:2 digital.
- Both the Flyer and the Perception have better looking video.
-
- The best feature is the price.
